다른 사람이 너를 칭찬하게 하고 네 입으로는 하지 말며 낯선 자가 너를 칭찬하게 하고 네 입술로는 하지 말지니라. |

|
A stone is heavy, and the sand weighty; but a fool's wrath is heavier than them both. |
돌은 무겁고 모래도 무게가 있으나 어리석은 자의 진노는 그 둘보다 무거우니라. |

Wrath is cruel, and anger is outrageous; but who is able to stand before envy? |
진노는 잔인하고 분노는 포악하거니와 시기 앞에야 누가 능히 서리요? |

Open rebuke is better than secret love. |
드러내어 꾸짖는 것이 은밀하게 사랑하는 것보다 나으니라. |

Faithful are the wounds of a friend; but the kisses of an enemy are deceitful. |
친구가 주는 상처는 믿음직하나 원수의 입맞춤은 속임수가 가득하니라. |

The full soul loatheth an honeycomb; but to the hungry soul every bitter thing is sweet. |
배부른 혼은 벌집도 싫어하나 주린 혼에게는 쓴 것도 모두 다니라. |

As a bird that wandereth from her nest, so is a man that wandereth from his place. |
자기 처소를 떠나 떠도는 자는 자기 보금자리를 떠나 떠도는 새와 같으니라. |

Ointment and perfume rejoice the heart: so doth the sweetness of a man's friend by hearty counsel. |
향유와 향수가 마음을 기쁘게 하나니 이처럼 마음에서 우러난 친구의 권고도 사람에게 달콤하니라. |

Thine own friend, and thy father's friend, forsake not; neither go into thy brother's house in the day of thy calamity: for better is a neighbour that is near than a brother far off. |
네 친구와 네 아버지의 친구를 저버리지 말며 네 재난의 날에 네 형제의 집에 들어가지 말라. 가까이 있는 이웃이 멀리 있는 형제보다 나으니라. |

My son, be wise, and make my heart glad, that I may answer him that reproacheth me. |
내 아들아, 지혜로운 자가 되어 내 마음을 즐겁게 하라. 그리하면 나를 모욕하는 자에게 내가 대답하리라. |

A prudent man foreseeth the evil, and hideth himself; but the simple pass on, and are punished. |
분별 있는 자는 재앙을 미리 보고 숨거니와 단순한 자는 나아가다가 벌을 받느니라. |

Take his garment that is surety for a stranger, and take a pledge of him for a strange woman. |
낯선 자를 위해 보증인이 된 자의 옷을 취하고 낯선 여자를 위해 보증을 선 자에게서 담보물을 취하라. |

He that blesseth his friend with a loud voice, rising early in the morning, it shall be counted a curse to him. |
아침에 일찍 일어나 큰 소리로 자기 친구를 축복하면 그가 그것을 저주로 여기리라. |

A continual dropping in a very rainy day and a contentious woman are alike. |
비가 몹시 오는 날에 계속해서 떨어지는 물방울과 다투기를 좋아하는 여자는 같으니 |

Whosoever hideth her hideth the wind, and the ointment of his right hand, which bewrayeth itself. |
누구든지 그녀를 숨기는 자는 바람을 숨기며 오른손의 향유 곧 저절로 새는 향유를 숨기느니라. |

Iron sharpeneth iron; so a man sharpeneth the countenance of his friend. |
쇠가 쇠를 예리하게 하는 것 같이 사람이 자기 친구의 얼굴을 예리하게 하느니라. |

Whoso keepeth the fig tree shall eat the fruit thereof: so he that waiteth on his master shall be honoured. |
누구든지 무화과나무를 지키는 자가 그것의 열매를 먹는 것 같이 자기 주인을 모시는 자는 존귀하게 되리라. |

As in water face answereth to face, so the heart of man to man. |
물에서 얼굴이 얼굴과 일치하는 것 같이 사람의 마음도 사람과 일치하느니라. |

Hell and destruction are never full; so the eyes of man are never satisfied. |
지옥과 멸망이 결코 가득 차지 아니하는 것 같이 사람의 눈도 결코 만족하지 아니하느니라. |

As the fining pot for silver, and the furnace for gold; so is a man to his praise. |
도가니로 은을, 용광로로 금을 시험하듯 칭찬으로 사람을 시험하느니라. |

Though thou shouldest bray a fool in a mortar among wheat with a pestle, yet will not his foolishness depart from him. |
네가 비록 어리석은 자를 절구에 넣고 밀과 함께 공이로 찧을지라도 그의 어리석음은 그를 떠나지 아니하리라. |

Be thou diligent to know the state of thy flocks, and look well to thy herds. |
너는 네 양 떼의 형편을 부지런히 알아보며 네 소 떼를 잘 보살피라. |

For riches are not for ever: and doth the crown endure to every generation? |
재물은 영원히 있지 아니하니 왕관이 지속되어 모든 세대에 이르느냐? |

The hay appeareth, and the tender grass sheweth itself, and herbs of the mountains are gathered. |
마른풀이 나타나고 연한 풀이 스스로 모습을 드러내며 산의 채소들이 거두어지나니 |

The lambs are for thy clothing, and the goats are the price of the field. |
어린양들은 네 옷이 되며 염소들은 밭 값이 되고 |

And thou shalt have goats' milk enough for thy food, for the food of thy household, and for the maintenance for thy maidens. |
네게 염소의 젖이 넉넉하여 네 음식과 네 집안사람들의 음식과 네 여종들의 먹을 것이 되리라. |
