My son, if thou be surety for thy friend, if thou hast stricken thy hand with a stranger, |
내 아들아, 네가 만일 네 친구를 위해 보증인이 되거나 나그네와 더불어 네 손을 마주쳐서 서약하였으면 |

|
Thou art snared with the words of thy mouth, thou art taken with the words of thy mouth. |
네 입의 말들로 인하여 네가 올무에 걸렸으며 네 입의 말들로 인하여 네가 붙잡히게 되었느니라. |

|
Do this now, my son, and deliver thyself, when thou art come into the hand of thy friend; go, humble thyself, and make sure thy friend. |
내 아들아, 네가 네 친구의 손에 빠졌은즉 이제 이같이 하여 네 자신을 건지라. 가서 겸손히 행하며 네 친구로 하여금 확신을 갖게 하라. |

|
Give not sleep to thine eyes, nor slumber to thine eyelids. |
네 눈이 잠들지 말게 하며 네 눈꺼풀이 졸지 말게 하고 |

|
Deliver thyself as a roe from the hand of the hunter, and as a bird from the hand of the fowler. |
노루가 사냥꾼의 손에서 벗어나는 것 같이, 새가 새 사냥꾼의 손에서 벗어나는 것 같이 네 자신을 건질지어다. |

¶ Go to the ant, thou sluggard; consider her ways, and be wise: |
¶ 너 게으른 자여, 개미에게 가서 개미의 길들을 깊이 살펴보고 지혜로운 자가 되라. |

|
Which having no guide, overseer, or ruler, |
개미는 인도자도 없고 감독도 없고 치리자도 없으되 |

|
Provideth her meat in the summer, and gathereth her food in the harvest. |
여름에 자기의 먹을 것을 예비하며 수확 때에 자기 양식을 모으느니라. |

|
How long wilt thou sleep, O sluggard? when wilt thou arise out of thy sleep? |
오 게으른 자여, 네가 어느 때까지 자려느냐? 네가 어느 때에 잠에서 일어나려느냐? |

|
Yet a little sleep, a little slumber, a little folding of the hands to sleep: |
좀 더 자자. 좀 더 졸자. 손을 모으고 좀 더 자자, 하면 |

|
So shall thy poverty come as one that travelleth, and thy want as an armed man. |
네 빈궁이 여행자같이, 네 궁핍이 군사같이 이르리로다. |

|
¶ A naughty person, a wicked man, walketh with a froward mouth. |
¶ 품행이 나쁜 자 곧 사악한 자는 비뚤어진 입을 가지고 걸어 다니며 |

|
He winketh with his eyes, he speaketh with his feet, he teacheth with his fingers; |
눈으로 눈짓을 하고 발로 말을 하며 손가락으로 가르치나니 |

|
Frowardness is in his heart, he deviseth mischief continually; he soweth discord. |
그는 자기 마음속에 비뚤어진 것을 품으며 계속해서 해악을 꾀하고 불화를 뿌리느니라. |

|
Therefore shall his calamity come suddenly; suddenly shall he be broken without remedy. |
그러므로 그의 재앙이 갑자기 임하리니 그가 구할 길도 없이 갑자기 패망하리라. |

¶ These six things doth the LORD hate: yea, seven are an abomination unto him: |
¶ 주께서 이 여섯 가지를 미워하시며 참으로 일곱 가지가 그분께 가증한 것이니 |

|
A proud look, a lying tongue, and hands that shed innocent blood, |
곧 교만한 눈빛과 거짓된 혀와 무죄한 피를 흘리는 손과 |

|
An heart that deviseth wicked imaginations, feet that be swift in running to mischief, |
사악한 상상의 꾀를 꾸미는 마음과 신속히 해악으로 치닫는 발과 |

|
A false witness that speaketh lies, and he that soweth discord among brethren. |
거짓들을 말하는 거짓 증인과 형제들 가운데 불화를 뿌리는 자니라. |

|
¶ My son, keep thy father's commandment, and forsake not the law of thy mother: |
¶ 내 아들아, 네 아버지의 명령을 지키고 네 어머니의 법을 버리지 말며 |

|
Bind them continually upon thine heart, and tie them about thy neck. |
그것들을 계속해서 네 마음에 묶어 두고 네 목에 매어 두라. |

|
When thou goest, it shall lead thee; when thou sleepest, it shall keep thee; and when thou awakest, it shall talk with thee. |
그것이 네가 다닐 때에 너를 인도하고 네가 잘 때에 너를 보호하며 네가 깰 때에 너와 말하리니 |

|
For the commandment is a lamp; and the law is light; and reproofs of instruction are the way of life: |
그 명령은 등불이요, 그 법은 빛이며 훈계하는 책망들은 생명의 길이니라. |

|
To keep thee from the evil woman, from the flattery of the tongue of a strange woman. |
그것이 너를 지켜 악한 여자에게서 떠나게 하며 낯선 여자의 혀에서 나오는 아첨하는 말에서 떠나게 하리라. |

|
Lust not after her beauty in thine heart; neither let her take thee with her eyelids. |
그녀의 아름다움을 따라 네 마음속에 정욕을 품지 말며 그녀가 그녀의 눈꺼풀로 너를 붙잡지 못하게 하라. |

|
For by means of a whorish woman a man is brought to a piece of bread: and the adulteress will hunt for the precious life. |
음탕한 여자로 말미암아 남자가 빵 한 조각을 얻으려고 끌려가나니 간음하는 여자는 귀중한 생명을 사냥하리로다. |

Can a man take fire in his bosom, and his clothes not be burned? |
사람이 자기 품에 불을 품고 자기 옷이 타지 않게 할 수 있겠느냐? |

Can one go upon hot coals, and his feet not be burned? |
사람이 뜨거운 숯을 밟고 자기 발이 타지 않게 할 수 있겠느냐? |

|
So he that goeth in to his neighbour's wife; whosoever toucheth her shall not be innocent. |
자기 이웃의 아내에게로 들어가는 자도 그와 같으리라. 누구든지 그녀에게 손을 대는 자는 무죄하지 아니하리라. |

|
Men do not despise a thief, if he steal to satisfy his soul when he is hungry; |
만일 도둑이 주릴 때에 자기 혼을 만족시키려고 도둑질을 하면 사람들이 그를 멸시하지는 아니하느니라. |

|
But if he be found, he shall restore sevenfold; he shall give all the substance of his house. |
그러나 그가 들키면 일곱 배를 갚아야 하리니 그가 자기 집의 모든 재산을 주어야 하리라. |

|
But whoso committeth adultery with a woman lacketh understanding: he that doeth it destroyeth his own soul. |
그러나 누구든지 여자와 간음하는 자는 명철이 부족한 자니라. 그것을 행하는 자는 자기 자신의 혼을 망하게 하며 |

A wound and dishonour shall he get; and his reproach shall not be wiped away. |
상처와 불명예를 얻고 자기의 치욕을 씻지 못하리라. |

|
For jealousy is the rage of a man: therefore he will not spare in the day of vengeance. |
한 남자의 격노는 질투이므로 원수 갚는 날에 그가 용서하지 아니하고 |

|
He will not regard any ransom; neither will he rest content, though thou givest many gifts. |
어떤 대속물도 중히 여기지 아니하며 네가 많은 선물을 줄지라도 그가 만족하여 쉬지 아니하리라. |
