There was a man in the land of Uz, whose name was Job; and that man was perfect and upright, and one that feared God, and eschewed evil. |
우스 땅에 욥이라는 이름의 한 사람이 있었는데 그 사람은 완전하고 곧바르며 하나님을 두려워하고 악을 멀리하는 자더라. |

And there were born unto him seven sons and three daughters. |
그에게 아들 일곱과 딸 셋이 태어나니라. |

|
His substance also was seven thousand sheep, and three thousand camels, and five hundred yoke of oxen, and five hundred she asses, and a very great household; so that this man was the greatest of all the men of the east. |
또한 그의 재산은 양이 칠천 마리요, 낙타가 삼천 마리요, 소가 오백 겨리요, 암나귀가 오백 마리이며 집안사람들도 심히 많았으므로 이 사람은 동쪽의 모든 사람 중에 가장 큰 자더라. |

And his sons went and feasted in their houses, every one his day; and sent and called for their three sisters to eat and to drink with them. |
그의 아들들이 저마다 자기 날이 되면 가서 자기들의 집에서 잔치를 베풀고 또 사람을 보내어 자기들의 세 누이도 불러 그들과 함께 먹고 마시더라. |

And it was so, when the days of their feasting were gone about, that Job sent and sanctified them, and rose up early in the morning, and offered burnt offerings according to the number of them all: for Job said, It may be that my sons have sinned, and cursed God in their hearts. Thus did Job continually. |
그들의 잔칫날이 지나가면 욥이 사람을 보내어 그들을 거룩히 구별하고 또 아침 일찍 일어나서 그들 모두의 수대로 번제 헌물을 드렸으니 이는 욥이 말하기를, 혹시 내 아들들이 죄를 짓고 마음속에서 하나님을 저주하였을까 하노라, 하였기 때문이더라. 욥이 계속해서 이같이 행하였더라. |

¶ Now there was a day when the sons of God came to present themselves before the LORD, and Satan came also among them. |
¶ 이제 하루는 하나님의 아들들이 자기를 주 앞에 보이려고 왔는데 사탄도 그들 가운데 오니라. |

|
And the LORD said unto Satan, Whence comest thou? Then Satan answered the LORD, and said, From going to and fro in the earth, and from walking up and down in it. |
주께서 사탄에게 이르시되, 네가 어디에서 오느냐? 하시니 이에 사탄이 주께 대답하여 이르되, 땅에서 여기저기 다니고 또 그 안에서 위아래로 거닐다가 오나이다, 하매 |

And the LORD said unto Satan, Hast thou considered my servant Job, that there is none like him in the earth, a perfect and an upright man, one that feareth God, and escheweth evil? |
주께서 사탄에게 이르시되, 네가 내 종 욥을 깊이 살펴보았느냐? 그와 같이 완전하고 곧바르며 하나님을 두려워하고 악을 멀리하는 자가 땅에 없느니라, 하시니라. |

|
Then Satan answered the LORD, and said, Doth Job fear God for nought? |
이에 사탄이 주께 응답하여 이르되, 욥이 까닭 없이 하나님을 두려워하나이까? |

| 욥 1:10 |
|
Hast not thou made an hedge about him, and about his house, and about all that he hath on every side? thou hast blessed the work of his hands, and his substance is increased in the land. |
주께서 그와 그의 집과 그의 모든 소유를 사방에서 울타리로 두르지 아니하셨나이까? 주께서 그의 손이 하는 일에 복을 주시니 그 땅에서 그의 재산이 불어났나이다. |

|
But put forth thine hand now, and touch all that he hath, and he will curse thee to thy face. |
그러나 이제 주의 손을 내미사 그의 모든 소유에 대소서. 그리하시면 그가 주의 얼굴 앞에서 주를 저주하리이다, 하매 |

|
And the LORD said unto Satan, Behold, all that he hath is in thy power; only upon himself put not forth thine hand. So Satan went forth from the presence of the LORD. |
주께서 사탄에게 이르시되, 보라, 그의 모든 소유가 네 권능 안에 있거니와 다만 그에게는 네 손을 내밀지 말라, 하시니 이에 사탄이 주 앞에서 물러가더라. |

¶ And there was a day when his sons and his daughters were eating and drinking wine in their eldest brother's house: |
¶ 하루는 그의 아들딸들이 자기들의 맏형 집에서 먹고 포도즙을 마실 때에 |

|
And there came a messenger unto Job, and said, The oxen were plowing, and the asses feeding beside them: |
한 사자가 욥에게 와서 이르되, 소들은 밭을 갈고 나귀들은 그것들 곁에서 풀을 먹는데 |

| 욥 1:15 |
|
And the Sabeans fell upon them, and took them away; yea, they have slain the servants with the edge of the sword; and I only am escaped alone to tell thee. |
스바 사람들이 그것들을 덮쳐서 빼앗아 가고 참으로 그들이 칼날로 종들을 죽였나이다. 나만 홀로 피하여 주인께 고하나이다, 하더라. |

|
While he was yet speaking, there came also another, and said, The fire of God is fallen from heaven, and hath burned up the sheep, and the servants, and consumed them; and I only am escaped alone to tell thee. |
그가 아직 말 할 때에 또 다른 사람이 와서 이르되, 하나님의 불이 하늘에서 내려와 양들과 종들을 태워 없애 버렸나이다. 나만 홀로 피하여 주인께 고하나이다, 하더라. |

|
While he was yet speaking, there came also another, and said, The Chaldeans made out three bands, and fell upon the camels, and have carried them away, yea, and slain the servants with the edge of the sword; and I only am escaped alone to tell thee. |
그가 아직 말 할 때에 또 다른 사람이 와서 이르되, 갈대아 사람들이 세 무리를 지어 낙타들을 덮쳐서 끌어갔고 참으로 칼날로 종들을 죽였나이다. 나만 홀로 피하여 주인께 고하나이다, 하더라. |

While he was yet speaking, there came also another, and said, Thy sons and thy daughters were eating and drinking wine in their eldest brother's house: |
그가 아직 말할 때에 또 다른 사람이 와서 이르되, 주인의 아들딸들이 자기들의 맏형 집에서 먹고 포도즙을 마시는데 |

|
And, behold, there came a great wind from the wilderness, and smote the four corners of the house, and it fell upon the young men, and they are dead; and I only am escaped alone to tell thee. |
보소서, 광야로부터 큰 바람이 와서 그 집의 네 모퉁이를 치매 그 집이 그 젊은이들 위에 무너지므로 그들이 죽었나이다. 나만 홀로 피하여 주인께 고하나이다, 하더라. |

|
Then Job arose, and rent his mantle, and shaved his head, and fell down upon the ground, and worshipped, |
이에 욥이 일어나 자기의 겉옷을 찢으며 머리를 밀고 땅에 엎드려 경배하며 |

|
And said, Naked came I out of my mother's womb, and naked shall I return thither: the LORD gave, and the LORD hath taken away; blessed be the name of the LORD. |
이르되, 내가 내 어머니 태에서 벌거벗고 나왔은즉 또한 벌거벗은 채 그리로 돌아가리라. 주신 분도 주시요 가져가신 분도 주시니 주의 이름이 찬송을 받을지어다, 하고 |

|
In all this Job sinned not, nor charged God foolishly. |
이 모든 일에서 욥이 죄를 짓지도 아니하고 어리석게 하나님을 비난하지도 아니하였더라. |
